My Journey: The Spark Behind Gi by Giselle

My name is Giselle Effting, and the journey to creating Gi by Giselle has been as multifaceted and vibrant as the pieces themselves. Born in the close-knit community of Blumenau, in the south of Brazil, my early life was shaped by a strong European heritage and the unwavering support of family. Though my childhood was idyllic in many ways, it also presented a significant physical challenge – a hip condition requiring years of treatment and instilling in me a deep sense of perseverance.

Even as a young girl, a creative spark was ignited by the simple act of collecting seashells on the beaches of Santa Catarina, transforming them into handmade treasures. This early inclination towards beauty and creation would unknowingly foreshadow my future.

Life took an unexpected turn in my teenage years when a local modeling course, intended to improve my posture, led to a professional career. At fifteen, I moved to the bustling metropolis of São Paulo, balancing studies with the exciting world of fashion. This period marked my first taste of independence and resourcefulness.

My modeling journey soon expanded globally, taking me to Milan, Mexico, and across Asia, with Hong Kong eventually becoming my vibrant base for eleven years. Immersed in diverse cultures and experiences, I thrived in the fast-paced fashion industry. However, after a decade, a yearning for deeper learning and a new creative outlet began to stir within me.

Driven by a lifelong appreciation for beautiful objects, and having experienced the allure of exquisite jewelry firsthand during countless fashion shows and photoshoots, I embarked on a significant transition. I returned to education, first in Hong Kong and then in the artistic heart of Florence, Italy, where I pursued my passion for gemology and jewelry design at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. This immersive experience provided me with the technical mastery and artistic vision that would lay the foundation for my own brand.

Following my studies, I gained invaluable experience as an in-house designer for the prestigious King Fook in Hong Kong, working on diverse projects and even designing a pure gold collection inspired by Chinese culture. This role exposed me to all facets of the jewelry business, further solidifying my desire to create something uniquely my own.

In 2019, Gi by Giselle was born in Florence. The unexpected arrival of the pandemic provided a unique period of focused experimentation in my studio. Drawn to the strength and versatility of titanium, I began to develop a signature style that is light, durable, and often inspired by the elegance of the human form. The introduction of radiant gemstones and the striking contrast of gold with titanium add layers of meaning and sophistication to my designs.

Building Gi by Giselle has been a deeply rewarding journey, fueled by the belief in my vision and the incredible support of those around me. My aim is to create pieces that resonate with the wearer, marking their special moments and empowering them to express their individuality and inner strength. Looking ahead, I aspire to share the unique aesthetic of Gi by Giselle with the world, creating jewelry that is both admired and cherished.
